Ribadu described the travails of those clamoring for Biafra republic, as temporal.
The ex EFCC boss identified inefficient leadership as the major challenge retarding the growth and development of Nigeria after 56 years of its being created.
He said their Biafra agitation though justifiable, cannot be achieved through violence but through the instrumentality of unity and togetherness.
Speaking to newsmen in Awka on the sideline of the 11th Convocation ceremony of Nnamdi Azikiwe University where he delivered a lecture, Ribadu said the alleged injustices being meted on them are not peculiar to the Southeast, adding that no part of the country is immune from one challenge or another.
“I believe this country has a future and if we stay together it will be better for all of us. All of us have our problems and challenges, including me.
“There may be issues of injustices here and there, but that does not necessarily call for the destruction of my own country. Let’s stay together and persevere, let us endure, collectively we can surmount the challenges one day.”
He further stressed that: “Nigeria still ranks poor in many development indices while the menace of corruption is threatening to choke the country to death due to the excessive stealing of our resources by some handlers of our affairs,” he said.
“Clearly, our challenges of nationhood are linked to the inadequacies of some of our leaders at all levels. Yet, another compelling argument explaining our developmental backwardness is failure by citizens to take ownership of their country.”
