Kante Reveals Why He Rejected Arsenal Transfer to Join Chelsea Last Summer

N’Golo Kante has revealed why he turned down a move to Arsenal this summer, moving to champions elect Chelsea at the end of Leicester’s title-winning 2015/16 season.

The diminutive French midfielder told Sky Sports that he didn’t feel as thought the Gunners showed the same interest as the Blues, preferring to move to a club who he felt would be the best possible fit for him.
“With Arsenal there was an interest,” he admitted, “but not a big as other clubs. That is why I didn’t go to Arsenal and went to Chelsea.”

The 26-year-old has carried his outstanding form with him from the King Power Stadium to Stamford Bridge, being widely touted as a possible winner of the Premier League’s Player of the Season award at the end of the campaign.

The list of signings Arsenal could have made throughout the last few years is extensive. Luis Suarez, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gerard Pique to name a few of Wenger’s nearly men. But perhaps none were a bigger miss than that of Kante – particularly with the club’s midfield struggles over recent seasons.

The little Frenchman signed for Chelsea last summer for £30m as they prised him away from champions Leicester, where he was the lynchpin of their miraculous title-winning side. Slotting straight into the side in west London, Kante has been an integral part of Antonio Conte’s compact, effective system.

Arsenal, meanwhile, signed Granit Xhaka for £32m and currently sit fifth in the league with increased pressure on manager Arsene Wenger from the club’s fans. Again.
