Coveted Virgil van Dijk Has Agreed to Join Liverpool This Summer on One Condition

Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk is understood to have agreed to join Liverpool this summer, providing they finish inside the top four this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit third in the Premier League and are closing in on Champions League football for next season.

Should they secure a place in the competition, then Read Liverpool claim that they have been told by two separate sources that Van Dijk will complete the switch to Anfield this summer and become the latest Southampton player to join Liverpool.

The Dutchman has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury back in January, however, prior to his fitness issues, he was regarded as one of the best defenders in the country and has also been linked with a host of other Premier League clubs including Everton, Manchester City and leaders Chelsea.

Van Dijk is said to have verbally agreed the conditions of his transfer to Liverpool though, and has also spoken personally with Klopp about his role in the team.

Although he has been convinced by the vision of the club, the centre-back will wait until Liverpool secure Champions League football before confirming his wish to move to Merseyside.

Whilst the Reds appear to have all-but agreed personal terms with the player, they will still need to negotiate a price with the Saints, who are likely to ask as much as £50m for the former Celtic star.

Southampton are said to be resigned to losing yet another big name, and like so many of their former players, Van Dijk will opt to move to Anfield where he will team up with the likes of Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane and Dejan Lovren, who have all move to Anfield from St Mary’s in the last three seasons.
