Arsenal Enter Talks to Sign £6.8m Belgian Division Top Scorer Henry Onyekuru

Arsenal are believed to have already started their summer business after a report from Sky Sports has claimed that the club is in discussions over the possible signing of little known KAS Eupen forward Henry Onyekuru.

ESPN have independently produced a similar story based on their own sources.
Despite only being 19 years of age, Onyekuru has just finished the Belgian season as the top flight’s top scorer. It’s a feat made more impressive by the fact that Eupen were newly promoted ahead of 2016/17 and ultimately finished 13th out of 16 in the regular season.

Nigerian talent Onyekuru, who was formerly schooled at the Aspire Academy in Qatar, scored a total of 24 times in all competitions this season.

It is thought that he has a £6.8m release clause and has already turned down the chance to move within Belgium to domestic giants Club Brugge and Anderlecht.
That would appear to be because a Premier League move is what he has set his heart on. Only last week, Onyekuru’s representatives informed Sky Sports that talks with two un-named Premier League clubs were ongoing and ‘progressing well’.

Everton, Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Brom are among the clubs believed to have been watching him this season, but Sky puts Arsenal as now being in the ‘driving seat.’

It could yet prove to be a very busy summer for the Gunners. Notwithstanding the uncertain managerial situation, both Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Lucas Perez are tipped to leave, suggesting that serious and heavy reinvestment up front will need to be done.
