Antonio Conte Hints Chelsea are Due for Big Summer of Spending & Reveals Plan to Stay in London

Antonio Conte has opened up on life at Chelsea in an exclusive interview with Corriere Della Sera – discussing what his expectations were, confidence ahead of the FA Cup final, and his future with the club.

Saturday evening will see Chelsea take on Arsenal in the FA Cup final – a game which the Gunners will feel they need to win in order to save an otherwise poor season. However, Antonio Conte’s Chelsea side will be looking to complete the double to cap off a remarkable first season in England for the Italian manager.

Ahead of the game, Conte has sat down with Corriere Della Sera and discussed his time in the Premier League.
When asked if he expected the season to go as well as it did, Conte responded: “Honestly, no. Mourinho had made history, but Chelsea came from a 10th place and there were problems. A lot of people, I remember them, doubted that I could bring my way here.”

On his side’s confidence ahead of Saturday’s match:

“At the beginning of the season they didn’t even think we’d finish in the top four. Now there is the final. We won the Premier League, we could already be satisfied and the worry is we do not have the same hunger which Arsenal will have for the FA Cup. Hunger is crucial.”
Finally, Conte’s words on his future in London, discussing whether he will stay, will be music to Chelsea fans’ ears:

“We are planning the future. This year we had a base of 13-14 good players, next year with the Champions League we have to increase in numbers and in quality. The base is here, now we must put on the cherries.
